Santa Cruz Syndicate’s Josh Bryceland brings home the gold at the UCI World Championship Junior Downhill race today at Val Di Sole. Steve Peat is the bridesmaid once again placing second in the elite men’s downhill to Gee Atherton’s first place run. Gee was the man to beat all week and this race was his to lose, and he pulled through with a run as stellar as his practice had been all week.

The split times said it all on his way down the mountain here in Italy; Sam Hill was back to his winning ways and was on course to take his 5th World Championship by at least 5 seconds, but then in a surreal burst of dust, Sam lay on the track just 300 meters from the finishing line, scrambling for his bike.

Four Cross rider Jared Graves from Australia was favourite to win the Four Cross event at the UCI Mountain Bike and Trials World Championships in Val di Sole, Italy late last night. Graves was leading the final until Mickael Deldycke (France) took him over the embankment early in the race.

The downhill seeding race for the UCI World Championship Downhill took place today in Val Di Sole, Italy under blue skies, which is typical of this region, but it didn’t seem that way early in the week with light rain showers wetting the track. Racers played it easy and some played tactics in the seeding run as all riders are qualified and no points are given for the seeding run, so not much was on the line.

Some of the Australian team for the World MTB Championships contested a round of the Italian National Race series on the weekend. The race was held at Vermiglio (about 12Km up the valley from the World Champs site at Commezzadura). The course was lots of grass and mud, heaps of firetrail, and only one real mountain biking section - pretty much about 150m of DH type track.

It's no big news to hear that Lopes came down Vallnord mountain in 22:21.84 minutes, earning him the 1st qualifying spot for the MaxiAvalanche. What is news, is that he did this one day after an overnight hospital stay. Talk about a diehard competitor!
